Lexington KY natural microblading eyebrows

WHAT IS MICROBLADING?

Microblading is a type of semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo that creates hair-like strokes to mimic your natural brow hair pattern. Using a manual blade containing very fine needles, pigment is deposited into the top of the dermis layer of your skin. Microblading is ideal for clients with normal/dry skin and fine brow hairs wanting very natural results. Desired results usually require two appointments (Initial 6-10 week touchup is included), although sometimes additional touchups are needed. Results typically last 1-5 years, while I recommend touchups every 1-3 years to keep hair strokes crisp.

WHAT IS COMBO BROWS?

Combo Brows are a combination of microblading strokes and machine shading to give a natural, but defined brow. This is best for clients with any skin type, or clients wanting natural microblading but have coarse hair and need shading to blend with natural hair. Typically hairstrokes are made mostly towards the fronts of the brows and shading is done through the middle/tails.

WHAT IS OMBRE POWDER BROWS?

The Powder/Ombre brow technique is done using machine shading. This service is best for clients of all skin types, especially oily/combo, who want a more defined/makeup look. Although powder/ombre brows can be made very bold and dramatic, a softer, natural look can still be acheived with machine shading depending on the client's desires.

  • What service should I book?

Please read through the slides above to learn more about the individual services. Keep in mind your daily makeup habits, skin type, and skin condition. More mature / sun damaged skin will heal much better with machine shading than microblading because there is less trauma to the skin. If you fill your brows in daily you will probably prefer either powder/ombre or combo brows. I do a consultation for each appointment before we get started, so if you book one service, we may end up deciding on another after your consultation.

  • Who's a good candidate?

Generally, anyone wanting full, natural, beautiful brows 24/7! If you want to cut out that extra 15 minutes you spend every morning filling in your brows, can't quite perfect their shape, or are experiencing some hair loss or thinning in your brows, microblading/shading may just be for you.

  • Who's not a good candidate?

You may not be eligible for microblading/shading for some health reasons, including but not limited to keloid scarring, autoimmune diseases, taking Accutane within the last 6 months, and epilepsy. Do not book if you are under 18 (ID is required), pregnant, have active skin diseases (i.e. psoriasis, eczema, acne, etc.). Please talk with your doctor if you have cancer, diabetes, an autoimmune disorder or any other condition that may compromise your immune system. If you have any of these, risk of infection is increased, so microblading may not be for you.

Some medications, like blood thinners, fish oil, and  vitamin E must be discontinued at least 7 days before treatment. You must wait at least 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after your appointment to get botox and other skin treatments. If you have previous work, please send me pictures of your brows with no makeup so I can decide if I can perform the treatment. Please contact me with questions!

  • What is the downtime/healing process?

There is no down time, but there are a few things you will want to avoid like heavy sweating, swimming, sun exposure, etc. The healing process is approx. 10-14 days before the skin is healed, but the brows will not be fully done healing until about 4 weeks. Please scroll to the bottom of the page to view more info about the healing process.

  • Is this a tattoo?

Yes, microblading/shading is considered a cosmetic tattoo since pigment is being deposited into the skin. It is also known as permanent makeup (PMU). This service differs from typical body tattoos in the type of ink/pigment used and the depth that the ink is deposited. Tattoos are generally 1.5-2mm deep, while microblading/shading is only ~0.15mm deep.

  • Is this permament/Does it fade?

Microblading/shading is often considered semi-permanent because it does fade over time,  however fading will be different on everyone and it is not guaranteed that pigment will ever fade 100%. Typically it will fade in 1-3 years, but some things that affect the fading are sun exposure, skin type (oily skin tends to fade quicker), skincare (retinol and AHA fades pigment), and your immune system. Most clients receive annual touchups to refresh their brows as they fade.

  • How many appointments do I need initially?

A free 6-10 week touchup is included with your initial appointment price. There is always some fading that occurs during healing (this differs with each client, but the average is ~50% fading) so multiple sessions are typically needed to build up the pigment for the desired look.  A majority of clients will acheive desired results with these first two appointments. However, some will need more than one touchup at an additional cost ($150). It is very important to follow pre-care and after care instructions to get the most out of your appointments. However, even if you do this there are some things that affect fading that are out of either of our control (immune system, oily skin, hormones, etc.)

  • Does it hurt?

The short answer is no. About half of my clients end up taking a nap and wake up with beautiful brows! I use two types of numbing during your appointment to ensure that you are comfortable; however, everyone metabolizes anesthetics differently so you could have some discomfort if it starts to wear off before I'm able to apply more. Even so, clients describe this as just being an annoying/slightly uncomfortable feeling and say that tweezing/threading hurts worse.

Your brows will be a bit tender (almost like a sunburn) for about 24 hours after.

Avoid caffeine 24 hr before and avoid booking appt at the beginning of your period to prevent heightened sensitivity.
